A school campus experiences a blown water valve in one of its restrooms. Flooding of the surrounding area could cause the school to close portions of the building and negatively impact education time. The maintenance manager needs to pinpoint the nearest maintenance employee with the skills needed to repair the valve in order to minimize the damage and the disruption to campus operations.
Solving this challenge will benefit the school in the following ways:
- Immediate notification of water collecting on bathroom floors allows the maintenance crew to shutoff water to the affected restroom and repair the faulty valve before extensive property damage is incurred.
- Due to health and safety regulations, a certain level of restroom services must remain open for the affected campus to remain open. By reacting quickly and averting having to close restrooms, the school district insures that campuses stay open and preserve education time.
- The maintenance department maintains location information on its employees and can deploy them smarter, and more efficiently, to address various building maintenance issues, possibly leading to lower headcount and/or overtime for the department
Solution
The focus of this solution is to create an emergency response solution for the school’s maintenance department to most effectively communicate to, and deploy, technicians to address the situation
- Deploy moisture sensors in multiple locations at each bathroom, setting the sensitivity to detect the desired level of water collecting on the bathroom floor
- Through the Status Alerts Module on IPsession, configure each sensor to dispatch a message communicating which restroom is experiencing the problem
- Configure the SAM on IPsession to disseminate the message to the maintenance department management, maintenance technicians, and the affected campus’s administrators, targeting the communication devices they rely on most
- Through IPsession’s web based administrative interface, review the latest location of maintenance technicians
- By the touch of a button, initiate a conference call to maintenance technicians and quickly assign responsibilities in response to the detected event
- Through a simple 3 step web based interface, send out notification over IP phone, mobile device, email, or cellular text message to the campus’s administrators once the faulty valve has been repaired and services have been restored
